Key Trends and Observations

  1. Selective outsourcing is most common for North American payroll organizations, whereas a combination of in-house processing and outsourcing is standard for global payroll organizations.
  2. Corporate alignment for payroll ownership is not as ambiguous as it has been in the past. More payroll organizations are moving into a Shared Service Center. Global Business Services, which generally focus on the end-to-end process, are becoming the service placement solution for payroll organizations in multinational companies.
  3. The combination of outsourcing, technology and automation have enabled payroll resources to work on more value-added analytical and process improvement activities.
  4. Talent development and management of payroll resources are key concerns. Top Performing payroll organizations indicate that the average tenure is 10 years or more. With the reduced focus on transactional-type activities, payroll leaders are positioning themselves to re-skill and redeploy resources in order to fit into the "new normal" for payroll.
  5. Multinational companies are in search of credible, intellectual insight regarding payroll processing costs around the world
